Meibomian gland expression is an eye care procedure where gentle pressure is applied to the eyelids to express (or squeeze out) the oils produced by the meibomian glands. These glands, located in the eyelids, secrete an oily substance called meibum that is crucial for healthy tears and preventing dry eyes. When these glands become blocked or dysfunctional, it can lead to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), a common cause of dry eye.
